TEACHING IN STUDIOS

EDUCATOR

Sept 2003 - Present

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

I began teaching children and youth ballet, jazz and modern dance at Crossings Dance early in adulthood and still do today. I have also taught at International School of Ballet (2017-2020) directing their modern program, and Alberta Dance Academy (2009-2011). Now at Crossings I primarily teach contemporary and modern styles, bringing my knowledge of floorwork, jumps, turns, inversions and soft acrobatic skills to the team.

Over the years I’ve had the privilege of seeing students grow up and choose careers, some dance and many other things but all with an appreciation for community, learning, and the ability of one’s body. Teaching brings me joy and the students inspire me with their hard work and dedication. It is an honour to pass on skills and technique but also to witness growth and learning and to be a safe space for the messiness of growing up. I care deeply about my students and hope to pass on a life-long love of moving and a mindset that celebrates “failure” as what it actually is; the courage to try, be vulnerable, adapt and grow.

Students I’ve taught have gone on to be performers, choreographers, dance teachers, artistic directors, kinesiologists, physiotherapists and more.
